Chandler Arboretum

A Local Showcase
Donated by George and Freda Chandler, this 50-acre preserve is currently under development. When complete, this first-class arboretum will showcase native plant and tree varieties and offer visitors tips on cultivating native vegetation. It will also serve as a living laboratory for local students and will provide an aesthetic and educational environment for Baytown’s residents and visitors. One of its primary goals will be to function as a repository for plants native to the Coastal Plains of South Texas and to promote diversity of plant life in the landscape. A visitor’s center is planned, as are trails, outdoor seating areas, ponds, fountains, sculptures and memorials. The arboretum is operated by the City of Baytown.
The land for the arboreteum was donated to the City of Baytown by longtime residents George and Freda Chandler.
