The Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center recently resurfaced its parking lot and installed a public boat ramp and dock thanks in part to a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. There are plenty of parking spaces right next to the boat ramp.
The one-lane boat ramp leads into Goose Creek. From there, canoes or other small boats can turn right and head up Goose Creek for a scenic trip. However, the water is pretty shallow at times. Most boaters should take a left and head out under the Market Street bridge. A special dredging project made this area deep enough for recreational boats to pass through and into Tabbs Bay. The dredge material was used to create a small wetland, which you will see on your right. Once you are under the bridge, the ocean’s the limit.
